Anderson became the oldest bowler in 87 years to top the Test rankings. The previous oldest player to top the ICC Test rankings was Australian leg spinner Clarrie Grimmett in 1936.

At 40 years and 207 days Anderson dethroned Australian skipper Pat Cummins's 4-year stint as the No.1 bowler in the Test.
