Senior Spotlight: Tim Guinee

Following the great success of our spring Senior Spotlights, UnionAthletics.com will spend the next few weeks spotlighting many of the Union seniors from all 26 Union varsity sports! Previous senior profiles can be viewed by heading to http://www.unionathletics.com/seniorspotlights.

Tim Guinee is a four-year member of the Union football team, helping to see the team go from a 3-7 record as a freshman to an 11-1 mark as a senior. He started the first five games of the year on the defensive line before suffering a knee injury, but returned to the lineup just three weeks later at Ithaca as Union clinched its first Liberty League title since 2011 and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006. In total, the senior history major appeared in 31 games as a member of the Dutchmen, finishing with 13 total tackles.

What has been your favorite moment as a student-athlete at Union?
My favorite moment as a student-athlete was beating Ithaca at their place to win the Liberty League title. That game was special because not only we won the Liberty League, but Union College football had never beaten Ithaca at their place. It was also special for me because two weeks prior I tore my ACL against Rochester, but I rehabbed my knee in order to be back on the field and win the title.

How has being a student-athlete at Union benefited you over the last four years?
Being a student-athlete at Union has benefitted me over the last four years because it has pushed me to be better at time management, learning how to juggle a demanding sport while also taking classes.

What has been your most meaningful experience outside of athletics?
The most meaningful experience outside of athletics was joining a Greek organization. Greek life provided me with the opportunity to meet new people outside of the football team. Greek Life also helped develop my leadership skills being the Philanthropy and Recruitment Chair for my fraternity.

Who was/is your favorite professor at Union and why?
Professor Kenneth Aslakson [Associate Professor of History] is my favorite Professor at Union, I was in one of Professor Aslakson's classes from sophomore year until senior year. He helped me improve my writing skills and complete my Senior History Thesis.

Do you have plans for post-graduation yet?  If so, what are they?
I hope to enter into the business world, hopefully starting in sales.

What advice would you give to younger athletes about their time at Union?
My advice for younger athletes at Union: cherish every moment, both the good and the bad. Work hard and give 100 percent effort, 100 percent of the time. Time flies and before you know it your athletic career at Union will come to an end. Live it up.
