Jimmy Miller

Jimmy Miller, a UNW Football legend, is back on the UNW Football staff in 2023. This will mark his 17th year as a Northwestern Football coach. He is serving as a special assistant to the Head Coach.

Previously, Miller served as the head coach for UNW football for 10 years from 1991 to 2000. He was a two-time Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Coach of the Year. Coach Miller guided the Eagles to the 2000 NCCAA Victory Bowl Championship where they won. He also coached UNW's current head football coach, Matt Moore, during 1995 to 1998. Coach Miller helped guide the Eagles to a NCAA tournament appearance in 2022. 

Before coming back to Northwestern in 2017, Coach Miller served as Bethel football's defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2017. During his time at Bethel, 11 defensive backs earned First Team All-MIAC honors, Kirby Carr was the 2006 MIAC MVP as an outside linebacker, and Brandon Carr was AFCA All-American selection in 2007.

From 1987 to 1990, Coach Miller spent four years as the defensive coordinator at the University of Sioux Fall. USF's defense was ranked fifth nationally in 1988, and their 1988 team went 10-0 and qualified for the NAIA playoffs for the first time in program history. 

Coach Miller is originally from Auburn, Washington. Miller played two seasons of football at Rocky Mountain College in Montana and finished his final two seasons at Bethel. While playing at Bethel, he earned All-MIAC honors in 1981-1982 along with NAIA All-District honors in 1981-1982. He graduated from Bethel University in 1983. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003 at Bethel.

Miller currently resides in Falcon Heights, MN with his wife, Liz. Together they have three children, Casey and husband Dusty, Carly and Beau.
