Buckley's Goldenrod

Solidago buckleyi Torr. & A. Gray is native to woods in southern Missouri and adjacent Arkansas, southern Illinois, extreme southwestern Indiana, northwestern Kentucky, and northcentral Alabama.  The species is similar to S. petiolaris but has larger lower and mid stem leaves with large teeth (Semple & Cook 2006). Semple & Gandhi (2012) neotypified the species and presented a map of its distribution, noting reports from Georgia were based on specimens of S. porteri.  Semple and Keener (2016) documented the presence of S. buckleyi in Alabama supported by a multivariate analysis comparing S. buckleyi, S. petiolaris var. petiolaris and S. porteri.  Semple et al. (2017) included S. buckleyi in a multivariate study of all taxa in S. subsect. Thyrsiflorae and found the species do be statistically distinct.
