About Cotoneaster dammeri ‘Lowfast’ (Bearberry Cotoneaster)
This low growing evergreen is called Cotoneaster dammeri ‘Lowfast’ or Bearberry Cotoneaster. Growing to an average landscape size of 1′ high and spreading 8-12′, this ground cover spreads rapidly rooting in almost any soil it touches. Its tangled stems grow small elliptical, leathery green leaves that are peppered with small white flowers as spring arrives. Following its blooming season, small bright red berries emerge densely filling in the shrub with color. Its berries, while tempting to eat, are not considered edible.
Planting and Care Instructions
Plant Bearberry Cotoneaster in well-draining soil in an area that receives full sun to part shade. Water regularly to establish a healthy root system then reduce to weekly except during periods of extreme heat. Because of its rapid growing nature, be sure to plant at least 5 feet away from other plants to allow for growth. To prune for shape or size, cut back stems after its blooming season has ended.

Cotoneaster dammeri ‘Lowfast’ is a great specimen for planting on a hillside or for mass plantings. Plant Bearberry Cotoneaster in a rock garden to fill gaps between levels or as a ground cover between planting beds in lieu of grass.
