Luna220
Found in my backyard around a bunch of dog poop. There were tons this morning but less when I went out about an hour ago.
Dave W
Looks like a species of Panaeolus. Except for P. foenisecii which has very dark purple-brown spore print, I believe all other Panaeolus mushrooms have black spore print. Another possibility is genus Psathyrella. These types mainly have purple-brown prints. Conocybe mushrooms --look similar to these-- have reddish-brown to cinnamon colored prints. bobby b
I think I saw mottled gills which point to Panaeolus. Mushroomexpert says Psathyrella does not have mottled gills. ??
Dave W
Most Psathyrella species do not have mottled gills, although over the years I have seen a few exceptions. But, I agree. These are likely Panaeolus. My understanding is that P. cinctulus has the "girdled" cap surface, ie. band of darker color toward the margin. Long stalks and relatively small bell-shaped caps remind me more of P. papilionaceus; although this species usually features appendiculate material (remnant of partial veil) along the cap margin. But, such a feature often erodes away in age. There are other possibilities for the species.
