Present investigations evaluated the effect of Argemone mexicana leaves extract on gut of Heliothis armigera (Hub.) at different solvents. The effect of leaf extract of Argemone mexicana in ethanol and acetone solvent after 24 and 96 hours of treatment on Heliothis armigera shows severity of the damage of epithelial lining, epithelial cells showed vacuoles at certain places. The gut lining was also found to be damaged and the lumen became wider after the effect of ethanol extract of A. mexicana. In acetone extract of A. mexicana, the thickness of the fore gut wall has been increased due to clumping of the tissue and hence the diameter of the foregut was reduced. The lumen therefore became narrower and columnar epithelial cells showed the vacuoles.

Impact of the Stem Extract of Thevetia neriifolia on the Feeding Potential and Histological Architecture of the Midgut Epithelial Tissue of Early Fourth Instars of Helicoverpa armigera HÜbner2015 •
Helicoverpa armigera HÜbner is one of the most important agricultural crop pests in the world causing heavy crop yield losses. The continued and indiscriminate use of synthetic insecticides in agriculture for their control has received wide public apprehension because of multifarious problems, including insecticide resistance, resurgence of pest species, environmental pollution, and toxic hazards to humans and nontarget organisms. These problems have necessitated the need to explore and develop alternative strategies using eco-friendly and biodegradable plant products. In view of this, the efficacy of Thevetia neriifolia methanol stem extract was evaluated against the early fourth instars of H. armigera as an antifeedant and stomach poison agent. Feeding of larvae with the diet containing 0.005%–5.0% extract resulted in 2.06%–37.35% antifeedant index; the diet with 5.0% extract caused 54.3% reduced consumption. The negative impact of extract on larval feeding resulted in 37.5%–77.7%...

Abstract:The present investigation showed that different doses of kernel extract of Semecarpus anacardium in acetone and ethanol solvent causes retardation in the development of the life cycle stages of Heliothis armigera (Hub.). The toxicity of the plant extracts studied increases with the increase in its concentration on the larva and pupa. The extracts of Semecarpus anacardium has property to reduce the growth of the population of H. armigera. Key-wordsHeliothis armigera, Semecarpus anacardium, Ethanol, Acetone.

Phytochemical analysis and bioactivities of Argemone mexicana Linn. leaves2013 •
This study is carried out on Wistar rats to evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of Argemone mexicana L aerial part extracts against CCL4 induced acute liver damages. The areal part of the plant was extracted by methanol and water using soxhlet, rotary evaporator and freeze drying apparatus. Hepatic injury was achieved by injecting 3 mL/kg s.c. of CCL4 in equal volume proportion with olive oil. The aqueous and methanol extracts of Argemone mexicana areal part were given at different doses, 100, 200, 400 mg/kg/day Methanol extract, and 400 mg/kg/day orally of aqueous extract for 5 days under CCL4 induction at 3rd day. The significance of differences between means was compared among the groups using Independent-sample T-test with probability value. The methanol extract at 100 mg/kg offered significant hepatoprotective activity (p<0.05) by reducing the serum marker enzyme, like Serum Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase (SGOT), Serum Glutamate Pyrovate Transaminase (SGPT) and Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP). Histopathlogical studies further confirmed the hepatoprotective activity of 100 mg/kg methanol extract. Argemone mexicana L. at dose 100 mg/kg indeed has a reasonable potential in healing liver parenchyma and regeneration of liver cells hence it may acts as a potent liver tonic. The results obtained were compared with silymarin (70 mg/kg.oral), the standard drug, which shown recovery toward normalization almost like that of silymarin, therefore, we recommend for further studies to isolate the pure component and the mechanism that displayed the hepatoprotective activity for making standard drug.

PLANT PROFILE, PHYTOCHEMISTRY AND PHARMACOLOGY OF ARGEMONE MEXICANA LINN. A REVIEWArgemone Mexicana is extensively used as traditional medicine for the treatment of numerous diseases. Various parts of the plant were extensively used in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathic medicines. It is reported to have antimicrobial activity, wound healing property, larvicidal and chemosterilant activity, nematicidal and allelopathic potential, antimalarial, antibacterial and antifungal, molluscicidal, anticancer, hepatoprotective, anti-HIV and neuropharmacological activity. Chemical investigations of this plant have revealed the presence of alkaloids, amino acids, phenolics and fatty acids. A. mexicana has shown promise as an effective bio-control agent. The present review includes the detailed exploration of traditional uses, phytochemical and pharmacological properties and actions of whole plant extract reported so far.

Anthelmintic Activity of Heliotropium zeylanicum and Capparis sepiaria L2009 •
The study reports anthelmintic activity of the petroleum ether (60-80 ºC) and ethanol extracts obtained from plants Heliotropium zeylanicum and Capparis sepiaria. Bothe extracts showed significant and dose dependant activity compare to standard drug albendazole. Amongst them ethanol extract of Heliotropium zeylanicum and Capparis sepiaria (40 mg/mL) showed better activity.
