True leaf spots absent,

diffuse colourations. Colonies hypophyllous, in
irregular patches. sometimes large, confluent,
of the apical branched head, often
somewhat swollen, polyblastic, sympodial.
somewhat geniculate or subdenticulate,
conspicuously cicatrized, conidial scars slightly
branchlets
coverin-[ almost the entire iower surf'ace. Mycelium
mainly present externally, superficial, internal
rnycelium absent or sparsely developed. Hyphae
crecping, septaJe, branched, occasionally
anastomosin,e, r,erruculose, pale olivaceous to
ycllowish blown, (1-) 1.5-2.5 (-3.5) prm wide,
sonrewhat darker and wider around the
conidiophores. Conidiophores solitary, arising
from creeping hyphae, erect, straight or slightly
curved, 250-800 x 3-5 ;rm, septate, brown, apex
paler, olivaceous, alrnost smooth to verruculose,
conidiophores composed of a very long main
axis (about 200-700 pun long) with a branched
apical head, usually 1-3 times dichotomously to
irregularly branched, branches usually 5-60 pm
long. terminal, parily lateral, rarely trichotomously

very long, obclavate, multseptate conidia. P. perseae
McKenzie (1990), described from Australia
on
verruculose. pale olivaceous to olivaceous brown,
apex usually rounded, base slightly obconically
truncate. hila slightly thickened and darkened.
Persea americana, is characterized by one-celled
coniclia and smooth conidiophores with very richll'
branched apex.

Persea macrantha (Nees) Kosterm. (Lauraceae),
Koomati. Anamalai, Coimbatore, T.N., India, 13-31994. leg. V.B. Hosagoudar (HAL). Isotype:

P. perseae-macranthae spec. nov. is a typical
Periconiellcz, morphologically allied to P.
deinbolliae M.B. Ellis andP. phormil M'B. Ellis
(191 6). Thc lattcr species difTers by forming
c.listinct. large. reddish patches. The conidiophores
are only pltiinly branched. P. deinbolliae is
characterized by smooth, liequently catenate
coniclia. Periconiellct, longispora Kamal, S' Singh
& R.P. Singh (1979) is an Indian species onLitsea
the
apex, subhyaline to pale yellowish brown, smooth'
