Loquat is attacked by many phytopathogenic fungi. Among these Spilocaea pyracanthae is of economic importance. The fungus received no attention in Pakistan and some other parts of the world. The current study is focused on the symptomatology of this disease and the etiology of the fungus. During extensive surveys of loquat orchards in 2013 heavy infestations of this disease were observed. The leaf symptoms were observed as olive brown, opaque necrotic sub-circular spots, with light brown coloration in the center. Two or more spots coalesced in severe infections covering large leaf areas. The fungus was identified as Spilocaea pyracanthae on the basis of conidia and morphological characters. The pathogenicity of the fungus was confirmed on healthy plants under greenhouse conditions by following Koch's postulates. The fungus produced characteristic leaf scab symptoms on young leaves. This is the first report of Spilocaea pyracanthae causing leaf scab of loquat in Pakistan.

Diversity of fungal pathogens associated with loquat and development of novel virulence scales2021 •
Loquat [Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.) Lindl.] is an important fruit crop in Pakistan; however, a constant decline in its production is noted due biotic and abiotic stresses, particularly disease infestation. Fungal pathogens are the major disease-causing agents; therefore, their identification is necessary for devising management options. This study explored Taxila, Wah-Cantt, Tret, Chatar, Murree, Kalar-Kahar, Choa-Saidan-Shah and Khan-Pur districts in the Punjab and Khyber Paktoon Khawa (KPK) provinces of Pakistan to explore the diversity of fungal pathogens associated with loquat. The samples were collected from these districts and their microscopic characterizations were accomplished for reliable identification. Characterization and Pathogenicity of Fusicladium eriobotryae, the Fungal Pathogen Responsible for Loquat Scab2009 •
To characterize the fungal pathogen responsible for loquat scab and establish differences in pathogenicity in loquat, eight strains identified as Fusicladium eriobotryae were isolated from either loquat leaves or fruit showing scab symptoms in Spain. Loquat plants belonging to the cv. Peluche were infected via a newly developed infection system that was based on spraying susceptible loquat plants with fungal spore suspensions, keeping the plants for 1 week in 100% humidity, and then transferring the plants to ambient relative humidity in greenhouses. Scab symptoms were analyzed and pathogenic characterization of all F. eriobotryae strains revealed different degrees of aggressiveness. Based on infection progression and severity of scab symptoms, strain ST1 was confirmed as the most aggressive in cultivars in the Mediterranean region. Alternaria alternata is a fungus which has been recorded causing leaf spot and other diseases on over 380 host species of plant. It is an opportunistic pathogen on numerous hosts causing leaf spots, rots and blights on many plant parts. A leaf spot and fruit rot on loquat, caused by A. alternata, was found in the plantations and entertainment venues for the first time in Iran in Sari city, Mazandaran province. The fungus was isolated from leaves and fruits, and its pathogenicity was confirmed. Pathogenicity tests showed that A. alternata could infect loquat, which developed the same symptoms after inoculation as those observed naturally in the field. The fungus was identified based on morphological characteristics and confirmed using comparisons of DNA sequences of Alt α 1 locus. This report is the first on loquat leaf spot and fruit rot disease caused by A. alternata in Iran.

In Pakistan, loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) in an emerging fruit and provides well economic return to growers. Percentage disease incidence of necrotic leaf spot (Alternaria mali) ranged from 25 to 46.16% in Taxila, Wahcant, Khanpur, Kalar Kahar, Choa Saiden Shan, Tret, Chatar and Murree. 38 isolates were characterized for cultural, morphological and pathogenic variations. Light to dark olivacious colonies were appraised, cottony to velvety with regular to irregular margins and variations in size and shape of conidia were observed between isolates. Length of conidiophores was ranging from 24.6 to 68.5 µm and nine was the highest septation in isolate ALT7WT1. Nucleotide sequences of inter transcribed spacer region (ITS1, 5.8S, ITS2) from 4 highly virulent isolates were submitted in the database of NCBI under accession numbersKR232489, KR232490, KT154010 and KT154011 respectively. Evolutionary history was computed with available sequences of A. mali, A. lternata, A. zinnae and A. tenuissima which were reported from Pakistan, USA, Sweden, Newzeland and India. Evolutionary tree showed4 different sub-trees and submitted sequences were observed in A. mali sub-tree. Amino acid sequences were exhibiting 100 to 99% genetic homology with A. mali isolate (FCBP1343) reported form Pakistan. Amino acid sequences were compared with FCBP1343 and differences at position number 18 (valine was replaced with glutamate), 57 (glutamine with leucine), 84 (alanine with glycine), 163 (glutamine instead of histidine) and 171 (serine was replaced with phenylalanine) were observed. Cultural, morphological, pathogenic and molecular characterization of A. mali associated with necrotic leaf spot of loquat was recorded first time in Pakistan.
Sooty blotch and flyspeck occur on fruit surfaces and result in economic losses due to less attractive appearance. Sooty blotch fungi form dark mycelial mats whereas flyspeck fungal agents are well characterized with black, sclerotium-like bodies on fruit surface. Whilst more than 60 species have been reported in association with these two fungal diseases, thus far they have not been studied in Iran. In this study specimens showing the symptoms related to sooty blotch and flyspeck were collected from different regions of Guilan province during 2012-14. Morphological characteristics and sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of rDNA were generated for the isolates and compared to describe species. In this study Microcyclosporella mali, Zasmidium sp. and Zygophiala jamaicensis were identified based on morphological and molecular characteristics. Microcyclosporella mali and Zygophiala jamaicensis are described and illustrated for the first time from Iran.
Dans les sociétés occidentales modernes, les personnes exclues du logement de droit commun sont très minoritaires mais leur nombre a augmenté ces dernières années. Elles se retrouvent dans diverses situations d’habitat : hébergements chez des particuliers, dans des institutions, des hôtels à leurs frais, des squats, d’autres habitats de fortune ou encore sans abri. Cette dernière situation suscite beaucoup d’interrogations : comment se fait-il que des personnes ne recourent pas aux hébergements sociaux et dorment à la rue ? Une raison parfois avancée dans le monde politique ou le grand public est le « choix personnel ». D’autres parlent de cas psychiatriques. Deux autres causes souvent avancées sont le manque de places disponibles, et l’effet de dissuasion lié à de nombreux refus par manque de place ou aux conditions d’hébergement jugées indignes dans certains centres d’urgence. Comment faire la part entre ces diverses explications ? Et ne peut-on pas en envisager d’autres ? Cette étude apporte un éclairage quelque peu différent sur cette question. Elle s’intéresse principalement aux personnes en situation de non-recours durable (au moins plusieurs mois), et notamment à celles qui ne demandent plus d’hébergement, voire refusent les places qui leur sont proposées. Elle mobilise à la fois des techniques statistiques, par l’exploitation des données issues de l’enquête HYTPEAC (2011), et des techniques de recherche qualitative, permettant d’accéder directement aux personnes concernées. Cette étude apporte deux résultats principaux. Le premier souligne que toutes les personnes sans domicile n’ont pas les mêmes probabilités de recours aux hébergements sociaux, et conduit à interroger les pratiques de priorisation à l’œuvre dans le système de prise en charge. Le second résultat, qui concerne spécifiquement les personnes sans abri sédentarisées depuis au moins plusieurs mois, voire années, explique les refus de places pourtant disponibles par la difficulté rencontrée par ces personnes pour casser les relations signifiantes qu’elles ont nouées dans un environnement qui les expose pourtant à une dégradation de leur état de santé et à des violences. Ces deux résultats invitent à reconsidérer ce qui est appelé « la grande exclusion » à l’aune de sa dimension collective. Plutôt que d'expliquer le sans-abrisme de longue durée par des choix individuels, et d'en déduire que le mieux est de ne pas intervenir, le regard sociologique sur ces situations limites apporte de nouvelles perspectives et ouvre une réflexion sur la création d'un "droit à habiter".
