Moringa oleifera Lam. (Moringaceae), a 'miracle tree' is grown in many countries of tropics and sub-tropics. It has proved to be an excellent source of phytonutrients and has therefore nutritional and medicinal applications for both human and animals. It is a cost-effective, easily procurable and a rich source of multi-vitamins (vitamin A, B and C), proteins, calcium, potassium and possess a unique combination of zeatin, quercetin, sitosterol, kaempferol and caffeoylquinic acid. The unopened floral buds, immature pods and leaves are used for various culinary preparations worldwide. Every part of this tree possesses some or the other nutritional and medinical property. It is a reservoir of dietary supplements and act as cardiac and circulatory stimulant with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antiepileptic, antitumor, anticancer, diuretic, antihypertensive, antispasmodic, hypocholestemic, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiulcer and hepatoprotective properties. Apart from medicinal benefits it is deployed in re-forestration program, used as fodder for livestock, as a biosorbent for heavy metals and in water treatment. The seed-oil is frequently used in lubricants, skin lotions and is a promising biodiesel. This review focuses on the explicit economic importance of this versatile and super food tree which miraculously combats malnutrition and serves humanity.

Medicinal Properties of Miracle Plant: Moringa oleiferaPhytomedicines are thought to have advantages over conventional pharmaceuticals, and recent research is rekindling interest in them. Moringa oleifera, often known as a miracle tree, drumsticks, or horseradish, is a tree with medicinal benefits. Its various parts, including the seeds, delicate pods, and leaves, are high in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins, phenolic compounds, and beta-carotene. Because of their nutritional value, the leaves and branches can be used as livestock and fish feed. The growing demand for moringa-based goods that are environmentally friendly has opened up new avenues for researchers to investigate this plant. The objective of the article is to provide a comprehensive overview of Moringa species that have both nutritional and therapeutic properties.

'The Tree of Life' or 'Miracle Tree' is the name of the plant of Moringa oleifera (Shajna). Moringa oleifera is one of the important plants in plant kingdom. Its leaves and fruits are used as vegetable in Indian sub continent, at the same time each part of the plant rich with some important medicinal values. It is now considered as a valuable source of several unique products for the medicines against various diseases. The present review is to focus on the nutritive values, physico-chemical properties, phyto-chemicals and pharmacological activities of M. oleifera. Various parts of the plant like seeds, leaves, flowers, bark and fruits have been investigated for their significant pharmacological activity. Phyto-chemicals like flavanoid, anthraquinone, alkaloids, essential oils, tannic acid, carotene, glucose have been reported for significant antioxidant, hepatoprotective, anticancer, aphrodisiac, antiinflammatory, antihyperlipidaemic, antihyperglycaemic and antiulcer activities of Drumstick tree and emphasizes the need for further exploring available information.

Role of a Miracle Tree (Moringa oleifera) in HealthcareBACKGROUND Moringa oleifera Lam is a plant found in Himalayan foothills. A large corpus of literature exists about moringa and its medicinal values. Various medicinal and health properties of moringa make it a part of various phytomedicinal preparation.It is used as a part of routine diet and has anti-fibrotic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-hyperglycaemic and anti-tumour properties. It is also used in production of seed oil, fodder and medicine. It is highly useful as a nutritional supplement, in the management of various diseases and in the management of public health problems. Importance of plants for medicinal purposes is known since long. Moringa oleifera is one such plant which has been named as “Miracle Tree”. Most commonly found in the tropical and subtropical regions. It has all the essential amino acids, vitamins, calcium and all the nutrition required packed in the leaves. It has been considered as a divine gift to mankind. Moringa has also been called “never die” because of its ability to survive harsh weather and drought. The aim of this review is to cover all the properties of every part of the plant used. The fruits are eaten and have been used in making curries all over India. However, the use of leaves and bark as a cure to diseases is not as much known as the fruits.
