Taman Wisata Alam Sicike-cike is a nature conservation area intended for the benefit of natural tourism and recreation. TWA Sicike-cike besides being used as tourist site, is also known for its ritual or traditional ceremonial site performed by the Pakpak-Dairi tribe. Presence of local wisdom on forest management, such as tapping the sap of incense (Styrax paralleloneuron) and floral organ are commonly utilized as a worship material during traditional rituals. The importance of this forest region for local communities is crucial for the sustainability of the local wisdom of the Pakpak-Dairi tribe. This study aims to determine the vegetation structure and composition in ceremonial sites located within TWA Sicike-cike. The study used vegetational analysis to obtain Importance Value Index (IVI) from each structures (seedling, sappling, pole and tree. The results showed that the largest INP at seedling to tree structure was dominated by Rhododendron malayanum with 46.29, 26.41, 55.53, a...
Sacred natural sites are part of a broader set of cultural values that different social groups, traditions, beliefs or value systems attach to places and which 'fulfil humankind's need to understand, and connect in meaningful ways, to the environment of its origin and to nature'. The study was conducted in 6 sacred forests located in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state, India. The approximate area of the six sacred forests ranges from 120-195 ha and are located at an elevation range of 1497-2603 m above sea level. Survey was done during year 2015. In order to achieve authentic information, an extensive dialogue with the inhabitants of Villages around sacred forests conducted using Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools. The present study compiles 17 religious plant species belonging to 14 families (13 Angiosperms and 1 Gymnosperms) used by local inhabitants round sacred forests, Pithoragarh. Within the documented species tree(53%) cover the maximum number of species followed by shrubs(29%) and Herbs (18%). present studies shows percentage of plant part used fruit (28%), leaf(28%), stem(19%),seed(5%),whole plant (5%), Rhizome(5%),Flower (5%) and Inflorescence (5%) by local peoples.

Indonesia has very high diversity of plant species. For centuries, highly diverse plant species have provided daily need for rural communities. However, the extensive establishment of single species plantation in Indonesia threatens this diversity. The loss of species will result in the loss of local knowledge of plants. The objective of this study was to find out the types of plant uses and the diversity of plants species from the protected forest area and from private land utilized by Kandang villagers living near the Bukit Daun Protected Forest Area, in Kepahiang District, Bengkulu Province. The results showed that Kandang villagers used 113 plant species from 41 families for various purposes. From the forest, the villagers took 23 species and from the private land 95 species. The types of uses could be classified into 4 categories, namely for food (72 species), medicine (21 species), construction material (16 species), handicraft material (7 species) and firewood (17 species). The sacred groves in the Phulbani Forest Division of Odisha were studied to understand the richness of plant biodiversity and traditional socio cultural elements of the local people. Sampling method was adopted to study the biodiversity and growth of trees followed by a questionnaire survey in the sacred grove areas with special interaction with the VSS and sacred grove committee members. Most of the sacred groves were named after the deity dwelling in the respective sacred groves. Trees like sal (Shorea robusta) and rohini (Somida febrifusa) are worshipped in the sacred places by the local people of the area. Apart from common festivals, Mati Yagna and Indra Yagna are also celebrated in the sacred grove areas of this division to obtain a good harvest and timely rain. It was found that various traditional customs associated with sacred groves were in practice by the Kondh tribe. From the sampling enumeration, it was confirmed that the sacred groves were rich in plant genetic diversity and were composed of many medicinally useful species, wild edible fruits, fodder, fuel wood and timber yielding species. The Shannon Weiner Index of individual sacred groves was calculated for knowing the weightage of species by their frequencies.

The use of cultural significance index (CSI), as a tool to calculate the use value of plants, is a growing trend in quantitative ethnobotany research. This study was aimed to measure the CSI of 24 edible plants species, using the valuation method of "Cultural Food Significance Index, CFSI by Pieroni (2001)”, to indigenous people in Muara Lawa, Kutai Barat district. The main plant species measured were 20 fruit plants and four other plants namely 2 vegetables plants and 2 palms were also measured as a comparison. The result showed that the type of fruit plants is relatively lower than or become suborninate role of four other plants. Only 40% of the total of 20 plant types of fruits that have CSI > 100 or as much as 60% of fruits plants with CSI <100. For analysis and presentation, we applyed cluster analysis and factor analysis, and showed a proper function, as well as providing additional information, such as the classification of groups of plants based on similar of t...

Sacred groves are well-protected areas managed by strong spiritual beliefs by the local communities and often represent the relict climax vegetation the region. The present study was conducted in Dhwaj sacred grove from the Central region of Indian Himalayas, releasing its role in biodiversity conservation through traditional and cultural belief systems. Total 81 species belonging to 67 genera and 50 families of plants were identified; in which 40 species were flowering plants, 23 species were lichens, 7 species bryophytes, 12 species were pteridophytes and only one species was gymnosperm. Rhododendron arboreum and Quercus leuchotricophora is the most dominant tree species in the grove showing highest IVI values. Ethnobotanically, 40 species belonging to 38 genera and 27 families are used by the local communities for the treatment of various ailments. But, due to high anthropogenic pressure, this grove facing several threat of degradation, hence special attention is needed towards i...
