Chilli (Capsicum annum L.) is a universal spice of India. It affects mainly with fungal diseases like Cercospora leaf spot which plays a vital role for the qualitative loss mainly affects on leaf. It has become a serious problem in some of the major growing states of India particularly in the early stage of crop. An investigation was carried out to study growth of Cercospora capsici on different media, pH and temperature at Department of Plant Patholgy, College of Horticulture, VCSG UUHF, Bharsar, Pauri Garhwal. Under this experiment different media including both synthetic and non-synthetic were tested for the growth of the pathogen. Among five media evaluated, maximum mycelial growth was observed on Potato dextrose agar (75.08mm) and minimum growth was observed on Corn meal agar (51.03mm) at 30 day of incubation. Hence, non-synthetic media than synthetic media favours the maximum mycelial growth of the pathogen. Different pH values and temperature levels were also tested for the p...

Molecular characterization and in vitro control measures of fruit rot disease of Sweet pepperFruit rot disease of sweet pepper is one of the main fungal diseases causing huge economic losses to the grower. An experiment was conducted to find out the fungal pathogen associated with fruit rot disease of sweet pepper, obtained from experimental fields of Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Fruit rot disease-causing fungus was isolated from infected fruits and identified using morphological characterization based on colony features, mycelia, conidia as well as molecular characterization based on internal transcribe spacer (ITS) region of the fungus. ITS sequence of our studied fungus MH368146.1 was genetically 99-100% similar to sequences of Fusarium solani in NCBI database. Typical fruit rot symptoms were reproduced by artificial inoculations of the isolated fungus. The mycelial growth of this fungus was evaluated on ten different solid culture media i.e.
Different growth media; PARP (Pimaricin + Ampicilin + Rifampicin + PCNB), Carrot Agar, Rye Agar and V8 Juice Agar were evaluated against mycelial growth of Phytophthora capsici. During isolation PARP was found the best medium as mean colony diameter of 2.2 cm was observed while no growth of P. capsici was found on any other media. Plant extracts Calotropis gigantean (Akk), Cassia fistula (Amaltas), Nerium oleander (Kaner), Oscimum basilicum (Niazbo), Parthenium hysterophorus (Parthenium) and Azadirachta indica (Neem) were assessed against mycelia growth of P. capsici in vitro. Parthenium hysterophorus totally inhibited the growth of P. capsici, Nerium oleander and Oscimum basilicum also prove effective to some extent. Although Azadirachta indica, Cassia fistula and Calotropis gigantea stimulated the growth of P. capsici.

In vitro Evaluation of Bacterial Endophytes for Biocontrol of Pythium aphanidermatum and Plant Growth Promotion in Setaria italica L. Grown in Seedling TraysAn investigation study was carried to test the ability of endophytic bacteria isolated from small millets as a biocontrol agent against the fungal pathogen Pythium aphanidermatum, the causal organism of sheath blight in foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.) grown in seedling trays under greenhouse conditions. In total twelve bacterial endophytes were isolated out of which six isolates produced β -1, 3 glucanases, 11 isolates produced chitinases and 12 isolates produced siderophores under in-vitro conditions. All these bacterial endophytic isolates inhibited mycelial growth of Pythium aphanidermatum in plate assay and liquid culture and the highest percent inhibition of mycelium was recorded in KMS5 (44.44%) followed by KMS1 (38.89%). In seedling trays, BMR7 and KMS5 (81.66%) had recorded the highest percent germination followed by KMS1 (79.62%) and KMS1 and KMS5 took 10.85 and 10.55 days respectively for 50% seed germination compared to control (13.50 days) which was treated with path...

Hot Pepper Fusarium Wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. capsici): Epidemics, Characteristic Features and Management OptionsHot pepper (Capsicum annum L.) is one of the important cash crops to Ethiopian smallholder farmers and an important agricultural commodity which contribute to export earnings. In Ethiopia, this high value crop is constrained by powdery mildew, Phytophthora leaf blight, Fusarium wilt, bacterial leaf spot, bacterial wilt, bacterial soft rot and pepper motile virus. Among this diseases, wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. capsici (FOC) is one of the major pathogen that constrained production and productivity of hot pepper in Ethiopia mainly the Central Rift valley. In Ethiopia, hot pepper fusarium wilt is reported in all production regions in different magnitude. The highest wilt incidence due to fusarium is 90% in some Farmers association of Alaba districts in South Nation Nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia. The economic yield losses due to Fusarium wilt has been estimated at 68 to 71%. Infection and disease development in Fusarium wilt is favored by warm soil temperatu...

The present study was conducted to evaluate selected culture media for rapid multiplication of P. capsici and its invitro control through the use of phytobiocides. Another aspect of this research was to detect the fungus in diseased plant material by molecular method. Significant differences (P0.05) were observed among the three culture media i.e. Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA), Corn Meal Agar (CMA) and Water Agar (WA) for radial colony growth, sporangial production/germination and biomass production of P. capsici. PDA proved to be the best medium in having maximum colony growth, the highest biomass production and 95% spore germination in the least possible time. Among the five different phytobiocides having tested, extracts from garlic, cabbage and peppermint retarded the mycelial growth while those from onion and radish stimulated the pathogen development. P. capsici was successfully detected through PCR in symptomatic and asymptomatic albeit diseased plant tissues when 595bp fragmen...
Chickpea is severely affected by Colletotrichum blight caused by Colletotrichum dematium (Persoon) Grove. and Colletotrichum capsici (Sydow) Butler and Bisby. In some of the major chickpea growing areas of Kurnool, Prakasam and Anantapur districts of Andhra Pradesh during rabi 2009 and 2010 due to heavy unusual rains, resulted in failure of the crop in many areas and led to re-sowing of crop in some areas. There is no research on Colletotrichum blight of chickpea in Andhra Pradesh as the disease occurred in severe form in recent years. Hence an attempt was made to study on the disease in which, A total of seven isolates of Colletotrichum blight pathogen were collected from major chickpea growing areas of Kurnool, Anantapur, Prakasam, Kadapa and Nellore districts of Andhra Pradesh. Variability among seven isolates of Colletotrichum capsici causing blight in chickpea with respect to morphological and cultural characteristics was studied. Genetic diversity at molecular level among isolates was studied using molecular technique like RAPD. Management of pathogen by fungicides and bio-control agents was also studied.
