this huge palm is from Central and northern South America and is one of the most cold hardy of the genus, growing to trunking size in at least one garden in southern California (though took decades to get there). Many Attaleas look alike and this one is similar in appearance to A butryacea with the tall, arching leaves and leaflets in a flat plane in very close contact giving the palm an overall neat appearance.

Went to Mexico a few weeks back and saw some awesome Attalea cohune palms. Appear to be very old and growing at the site of the Kohunlich Mayan ruins. Pretty awesome site to see!
