I was replacing another Casio solar watch that I have had for many years. I also have several higher end conventional Swiss watches, but this is the one that I normally wear. This watch looks great and has many useful features. I live in California, but it picks up the WWV signal from Colorado almost every night, so the time is accurate to the second at all times. It looks great and is comfortable to wear. I use and enjoy many of the features such as the stopwatch, altimeter and others.
If you like the look of the watch, I would highly recommend it to anyone. It is well made, will save a lot of money in batteries and should last for many years.
- A generous combination of features. Having triple sensors, multi-region radio time sync, and solar power all in one watch is a boon. It's a high price to pay for it all, but I'm not regretting it.
- Straightforward access to functions, with the crown only needed for changing numerical values.
- Very readable in the dark without needing to activate the light, thanks to large hands/numbers and amazing glow-in-the-dark materials.
- Good radio reception, able to get strong signal from WWVB all the way out in Massachusetts.
- Compass almost holds calibration for more than a day, which is great for a digital compass.
- Slightly less "tacticool"/overcomplicated appearance than most primarily-functional digital watches, which I like, although it is still quite visually busy.
- Alarms work the same and are just as loud as those on any other Casio watch. Some reviewers have said that this watch is too quiet, but mine is loud enough to wake me up in the morning just fine.
- Extremely quiet. I have very acute hearing and am easily annoyed, but I can only hear this watch tick when it's right by my ear, so it's never a problem. It's not completely silent like an all-digital-style watch, but it's close enough.
Weaknesses:
- Somewhat bulky, though well within my limits for size and weight.
- The resin band it comes with is a bit uncomfortable, comes undone a lot. Better third-party options are available, though.
- The stainless steel bezel is not very resistant to abrasion and has no plastic guards to protect it, making this a substantially more fragile watch than I was hoping.
- Weird and garish illuminator. The UV LED it uses to light up the hands and numbers doesn't get them very evenly, and everything glows an actinic blue-violet color that hurts to look at in the dark. The LED that lights up the digital display also leaks a lot of light out at a low angle, perfect for accidentally distracting someone sitting to your left. Overall, using the illuminator is really kind of a painful experience, saved only by the glow-in-the-dark dial that stays visible for hours and often saves you needing to use the light at all. It's certainly better than nothing, and if I absolutely had to do something with the digital display in the dark and didn't have a flashlight, I'd tough it out, but this does really make me miss the blue-green electroluminescent backlights from Casio's lower-end watches.
- Terrible countdown timer, bad even for Casio. Not only can you not set it down to the second, but it also doesn't go higher than one hour, which is a downgrade from my old SGW-100 which could do up to 24 hours. I guess it's enough for most cooking, but a lot of cheaper competitors out there these days have countdown timers that can be set up to 24 hours and down to the second, which makes this stick out. I'm honestly not sure why it's so limited, since there's plenty of room on the display for a multi-hour timer and it would be easy for the menus to support setting it.
- Unscrewing the crown to change settings is very slow, and so is winding it back in afterwards. You apparently can't leave it out without compromising water resistance either, which is somewhat concerning. I guess it's somewhat nicer than just using buttons to increment a value up and down, but only a little bit, and it's definitely not faster. It's also very easy to overshoot your target thanks to somewhat strange fast-scroll behavior.
- Using the digital display at certain times of day can be difficult because the hands get in the way. I know this is just a fact of life for analog/digital hybrid watches like this, but it's not mitigated very well here. The display is very tiny, and the hands, especially the minute hand, can cover a lot of it at once. There's a trick where you can press the light button and the bottom left button simultaneously to make the hands temporarily move out of the way, but it resets whenever you press any button, meaning that you can't keep the hands parked while you use the stopwatch or something. It's always technically possible to see every part of the screen by peeking at it from multiple angles, but between about 24 and 36 minutes after each hour of the day, it's kind of awkward.
I'm happy with the watch overall, and can see myself wearing it for years to come - but it might also be the first watch that I actually bother to take off before doing anything that might risk scuffing it, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Next time, I might go for something a little cheaper and better-protected against abrasion, even if it means sacrificing a few of the nice features this one has.
Prior to owning this watch, I had the PRW-3500 for about 7 years. Still one of the best watches, zero maintenance and does the job it was designed to do with no fuss. Still going strong today (just sits on the window seal to keep the battery topped off).
The main reason for purchasing this watch was the design while keeping the same functionality as the PRW-3500 (literally the same watch except it has hands). The PRW-3500 was a bit to 'nerdy' as I got older. If you do not know this watch has a solar panel 'ring' along the edges of the face, it's not a gimmick, it works extremely well, hyper efficient. From my experience the battery's lifespan will typically last greater than 10 years. In this case expect minimal maintenance until then. Prior experience with the PRW-3500, the watch band will give out in 2.5 to 3 years. Hopefully it is not the case with this band. This band is stupid comfortable out of the box, soft and flexible rubber. Altermieter, it works... but not accurate enough, usually off 1 to 2 hundred feet, even if I set the correct altitude, come back after a week its off. Compass, its a compass, works well enough, and will get you where you need to go, however would only use it in emergency situations (your last option). Do not have much experience with the bromater, or knowledge how to use it nor had the need too.
The watch is easy to read, but not like a digital watch. However, the hands pop out and are clearly visible/readable in all lighting conditions. This sell listing does not do the lighting on the watch any justice. When you activate the lighting the entire face, not just the hands, illuminates, and along with an LED illumination, everything that is white on the watch is fluorescent, and will illuminate passively, including the white lines on the outer portion of the bezzel. The small display has an LED illumination as well.
The watch is very comfortable, and is a watch that I can wear 24/7 without the need of ever taking it off, and I don't.
One thing that is a MUST BUY with this watch is a screen protector, like the PRW-3500, the glass is mineral, it's not if, it's when the glass will be scratched. The link below is the protector I found to be the correct glass size, it fits almost perfectly, 38mm, which is annoying because the glass is 38mm. I think once I crack the protector, already went through one (comes with three), I'm going to get the 37mm one.

In the end, I highly recommend this watch, totally worth the price, and it should (fingers crossed) last a decade.

So many features and gadgets -- most I won't use, but nice to have just-in-case, I suppose. Field watch for end-times. LOL.
Features I do use and/or appreciate:
* bigger face with clear numbers
* self-charging/ solar
* EXACT time with multi-band 6 (auto syncing to atomic time)
* dual-time for world time
* 5 alarms -- great for reminders for regular things-to-do
* luminescense is super, and excellent light -- both easy to read
* hands-free light is AWESOME. In dark, if you shift/angle your wrist, the light automatically turns on -- great feature for when in bed (I rarely take off my watch - lazy)
The user-manual is daunting. I learned all my watch's features from an awesome 52minute YouTube video titled, "Casio Protrek-PRW-6000...". (Amazon reviews won't let me link it, here). All of that video's content applies to this model PRW-6600Y. And, it was all broken down into chapters. Highly recommend watching this.
No regrets with this purchase.

PROS:
