Louis Armstrong is an American treasure

Louis Daniel Armstrong (eng. Louis Daniel Armstrong; August 4, 1901, New Orleans, Louisiana - July 6, 1971, New York) - American jazz trumpeter, vocalist and band leader. Had (along with Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and John Coltrane) the greatest influence on the development of jazz and made a significant contribution to its popularization throughout the world

Too many of us today forget that Louis Armstrong was one of the original pioneers of Jazz. His work in the '60's, especially with songs like 'Hello Dolly', make present day Jazz fans think of him as more Lawrence Welk than Ellington/Basie. Listen to Disc 2 of this set and you will hear a musician doing things and hitting notes none of his peers could match. Louis knew how to swing - do yourself a favor and listen to what this artist was doing in the 30's to 40's, it was special!

I love Louis Armstrong's early songs and his most popular songs. This album includes all the must-have songs of any Louis Armstrong fan while not over-lapping those great old 1920's and 1930's songs I have already. (Next up on my collection is the 1940's box-set)

I love every track on these two CDs. If you buy this item you will NOT be disappointed. I don't know why this set was not included in a Louis Armstrong collecter guide I read, because this is a one-stop shop for all of his best songs. If you don't own any Louis Armstrong songs, this is an excellent place to start as well. Just don't stop here, keep collecting! Everything Armstrong made is "Gold" so far that I can tell.

Louis made this a wonderful world and this is a fine collection of his hit recordings. As soon as I put it on the CD player I smiled...and I can't ask for any more than that.

The best trompet of them all. Never will be another one like him. Master of them all. God kept him at his right side and listening..

great cd's, nicely cleaned up. to my mind, the only short compilation available where you'll find "la vie an rose" and "do you know what it means to miss new orleans" in one purchase. this dual cd is really loaded. the cd's are laid out in reverse chronological order, based on when the song topped the charts, not when it was released. i thought this strange, but perhaps people are more familiar with his later recordings? by the time you get to the end of the 2nd cd you're at the birth of jazz. those recordings are a little rough sounding, but still great to listen to. you can't go wrong with this one. especially for the price.
