The game is godawful. Truly, truly awful. But I am not sure I can blame the game - I think the game is awful because the movie upon which the game is based is awful. The gameplay is passable though, and ridiculously hard. The storyline though is just awful. One bright spot is that it's a very easy 1000 achievements - just solve the game and get your 1000 points. That's the only good thing I can say about it. Well.... the other good thing I can say is at least it's not Beowulf.

I love playing video games, and having one that took place in the rich textured enviroment of The Golden Compass seemed like a good bet, especially since the game was cheap enough. Overall the game was fun and enjoyable, but I tend to like to play games where you don't collect little rings are gems or whatever. Seems to mario for me. But this game would probably be great for a child to play, not too intense or too hard, and tends not to stray too far from the themes of the movie. (i have not read the book yet)For the price though you can't beat it.

The movie to game adaptation of the Golden Compass is a fairly enjoyable experience. Graphics are decent, gameplay is solid but I would most recommend it for fans of the film. Had I not seen the film first, some of the concepts would not be clearly explained within the game itself (which is understandable as the game is not the right place to get into deep philosophical discussions on religion). For achievement hunters, achievements are fairly attainable although you will need a symbol guide to avoid lengthy trial and error during gameplay. Solid if not spectacular game.
