Product Description
This Kaico SEGA HDMI converter for use with SEGA consoles was designed so you could use your Mega Drive MD, Genesis, Sega Saturn, or SNK Neo Geo CD / CDZ & AES on a Modern TV with a simple ‘plug and play’ solution.
Kaico’s high-quality HDMI will work with Mega Drive, Genesis, Sega Saturn, or SNK Neo Geo CD / CDZ & AES and will provide you a more detailed, vibrant, and crisp display than the standard AV cable.
Compatible with all TVs with a HDMI input.
This HDMI Adapter for SEGA uses Line Doubling features to enhance the original input image. For instance, a 240p or 480i output from a Megadrive/Saturn will output 480p. This leads to a better, clearer, and more vivid display image over a standard HDMI adapter or AV cable set up.
This adapter is the ultimate all in one HDMI Line Doubler for:
· Sega Saturn
· Sega Megadrive/Genesis 1 & 2
· Sega Mega CD
· Sega 32X
· Neo Geo CD

Compatible with European, Japanese, and North American region SEGA consoles.
This HDMI does require additional power which is supplied via the included Micro USB cable
Firmware updateable allowing the user to change things such as the colour, contrast, brightness, screen positioning and filters to the users’ preferences or simply use straight out of the box for a perfect picture quality upscaled to 480p.

It may be a little pricey (twice the cost of the Hyperkin), but easily worth every penny if you want to run your Sega Saturn on a HDTV. I would imagine it's just as good with all the other consoles it works with.

It has one plug plus three adapters for
-Sega Genesis 1/2, Sega CD 1/2, CDX, 32X, Saturn
-NeoGeo AES, CD
Additionally, it can cycle through RGB inputs and composite (RCA, the basic yellow plug) inputs. This is very very useful. RGB signal will give you the most pixel-perfect output possible, which can give you an immaculately clean signal out of later systems like the Saturn. Composite, on the other hand, is a much lower quality signal but can give you a much more "authentic" tube TV look for 16-bit systems like the Genesis. It gives that little bit of softening blur that makes the shading and dithering patterns look a bit more like you remember.
Having the option to switch these modes at will is great. The only issue I encountered was strictly with the Genesis 2 on RGB mode: the picture was sharp but the colors were over-bright, with everything saturated with excess white light. The Genesis looked great on Composite, and the Saturn worked perfectly on every mode.
Upscalers like this can create input lag due to the time it takes to process the picture out to your TV, but this adapter was barely noticeable. I am generally pretty sensitive to input lag and this didn't cause me any trouble at all.
This is likely because it isn't doing complex upscaling, just line-doubling to 480P. 480P is the ONLY output signal for this, so make sure your display can handle that. Very few TVs have problems with old 480P signal but you should make sure before purchasing.
Overall this is a great multi-purpose adapter that is just a little short of perfect. Highly recommend for the Saturn but it might be overkill for the Genesis.
UPDATE: doing some research, it looks like the Genesis cable is missing the necessary resistors to bring the signal brightness down. I think this is a major oversight, but the rest of the functions are still good enough that I still feel it's worth four stars.

The thermal issues can be ameliorated by afixing it to a large metal object to act as a heat sink, I used a massive 7 port HDMI switcher that was constructed of aluminum, and tape it to said device. This seemed to fix the throttling greatly, but without any active cooling element the issues seems likely to return with extended use.
Honestly I've used this brand before for my Dreamcast without incident and it seem uncharacteristic for an issue this appearent to have no recognition by them. Possibly I have recieved a defective device, but I cannot recommend this as a right now.

First impressions are good as it feels well-built as it has an aluminium case for the HDMI part of the cable and this has no joins so has no weak spots in its strength. The adapters feel like good quality along with the USB cable.
Updating firmware was a little confusing as there are no instructions on how to do it. There is a weblink in the quick start guide on where to get it from and when you download it, you run the software. The software then has ?????? for the firmware version so it seems it has to be updated before you continue so you click update and after a pause, it disconnects the adapter. To properly update it, you have to hold the button on the front of the adapter and then plug in the USB you’re your computer with the button still held in. This then puts it into a mode where it can be flashed, and the firmware update was complete in seconds.
The updater software is also used to set any settings that you need and you can choose from different modes which apply an effect and this includes:
• RGBS 2x with smoothing
• RGBS 2x
• RGBS pass through
• Composite 2x with smoothing
• Composite 2x
• Composite pass through
You can also control the contrast, brightness, hue, Cb, Cr, and apply three other filters. If your picture is slightly to the right, which can happen with an RGB source, you can adjust it through the app and save it so all these settings will be preserved. The picture is nice and bright so this doesn’t dim the picture like some HDMI adapters can. Colours were correct and all the brightness, contrast, colour etc… could be changed on the TV as this doesn’t lock them. The filters changed the picture quality as you can add pixel smoothing which removes the harshness of the pixels for a more smoother look. All of the adapters worked well with no issues and I successfully played on my Saturn, Megadrive Model 1, and Mega-CD. It is extremely convenient to have one cable that can be plugged into each console just by changing the adapter.
This is now my main cable for these consoles as it’s so easy to change the adapters over and not have to faff about with different converters for different machines like I used to. Picture quality is as good as it will get for an SD picture and I’m more than happy with the output. An easy-to-use adapter which can add some filters to your picture to improve the overall quality as well as converting the signal to HDMI…

Kleiner Tipp noch für Besitzer des Sega. 6 Modi sind vorwählbar, LED grün mit Glättung. Viel Spaß beim spielen.
