Also note this is for NTSC consoles only, and is in English. The PAL/Japanese version of this game is Taiko no Tatsujin (and there are multiple releases of this game, I think it goes up to 11).
If you want to use the TaTaCon on your computer (to play osu! for example), you will need an appropriate adapter. The current adapter I use from RadioShack (a PSX to USB adapter from like 2003?) does not work well with the PS2 TaTaCon (sensitivity and response issues). The Trio Linker Plus II was said to possibly work well with the TaTaCon, but I have no first-hand experience with this.
Also, the sticks that came with my box are labeled with "Taiko no Tatsujin". I guess Taiko Drum Master didn't get it's own sticks created for it :p (note this does not affect gameplay at all)
First off, the game had came in early and I was ecstatic to boot it up later that night. That is where the problems had started. The game would not load. I did almost everything I could aside from swapping out the disc reader itself. Thinking my console was dying I decided to test 10 games, five psx and five ps2, of different condition. All of them worked aside from this game.
If your worried that only the game will come in, if you buy it new it comes in a big box with the games cover on it(the pic is the box, not the games case!) for $30 it was a hell of a deal!
However, this game comes with a really small number of songs, less than 30 before you unlock anything. You're basically going to end up playing "I'm a Believer," "Lady Marmalade," and the theme song to Jimmy Neutron a million times over. There's no career mode option or anything; the only other game mode option aside from taiko mode is mini-game mode, which is really nothing that special. Even if you are a fanatic like me, it's hard to keep up your momentum when your options are so limited.
Since this is really the only Taiko Drum Master game available in America, it's hard for me to say it, but I can't recommend it to everybody. It's not worth it to keep one or two taiko drum controllers lying around for just one game. This game could be a great addition to the other taiko drum games you could get... if you're willing to import a Japanese PS2 and learn Japanese to navigate the menus.
It's a shame. Although this game is a great game that almost anyone could enjoy, Taiko no Tatsujin games are pretty much only worth it to those who already know what Taiko drums are and know that Tatsujin means master anyway.
