Amazon.com

The first golf title for the Dreamcast, Tee Off is in the vein of arcade-style golf games like the Hot Shots Golf series on the PlayStation. Players control big-headed, Japanese animation-style characters on vibrantly-colored 3-D courses. Shots are viewed from multiple camera angles--including some mesmerizing aerial views--with the ball leaving a fading trail behind it.

While Tee Off does require some basic golf knowledge, it uses a standardized control scheme which even those who've never played video golf will be able to pick up on right away. In addition to customizable difficulty levels, Tee Off offers various modes of play, including gate ball (think croquet in cyberspace) and world tour, which rewards players' high scores by "unlocking" new characters and equipment.

Admittedly, Tee Off isn't for devotees of more simulation-oriented golf titles, as they'll probably pass it off as kiddie fare. However, casual video golfers and those new to the armchair sport are in for one heck of a good time on the links. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Highly addictive arcade-style gameplay
  • Great replay value
  • Gate ball (cybercroquet) mode Cons:
    • Japanese to English language translation is weak at times
    • May not appeal to fans of more simulation-oriented golf titles

This game is the best golf game that I have played on any platform. Some of the computer players are a little weak, but it makes it that much better.
I have played this game for hours on end. The graphics are very well done. I wish there was a better selection of players with better skills, but that's life. Perhaps there will be a Tee-Off 2 or something..
I can recall many a night staying up and playing this with friends to the wee hours of the morning.
If you are an armchair golfer, this title is for you!

I love golf games. Golden Tee 99 and 2000 are the greatest golf games out today. I think Tee-off may be the worst. If you are over the age of 10 and like to play golf, don't buy this game. If you are prone to dreaming about playing your dreamcast and can't wait to get home to play them, don't buy this game! The people at Dreamcast should have have sent this game out to pasture when the original version was delivered. Do yourself a favor, buy a football or hockey game for now, and wait until Dreamcast puts out a real golf game.

This is a alright game to own. I was hoping it would be more like Hot Shots but still a fun game to play. Great game to play with multiple players. I'm not sure if I bought this game bootleg or not because it was in mint condition except there was no original jewel case or booklet that came with it and the game will only load up if I haven't had my Dreamcast running for a few hours. Like most other golf games it is fun to play and has a high replay value in my opinion.

This is an overall decent game for Dreamcast. I was pleasantly surprised that it kept me occupied as long as it did. Coming off of the Tiger Woods era, I guess I may have been expecting a bit more than was to be truly expected but it was still a fun game and kept me happily satiated for a good amount of time. I think that the younger the person is, the more they would enjoy this as opposed to a more realistic golfing game. Recommended more for early teens

OK, by now I see that most of the faults have been addressed on this game. The characters are too-cute, have big heads and say non-sensical things. "Hee-hee, that's funny"? The world appears as some sort of futuristic Japanese computer/nature nightmare. The golf isn't realistic either. There are no stats to track, no real courses and the music is terrible. So, why can't i pull this game from my Dreamcast? Because underneath all it's faults, it's a nice golf game. And right now, it's the only game in town so I play it. The futuristic croquet game is also a nice touch and is fun to play. If you like golf, by this game. It's simple and basic and fun. You may curse the silly opening sequence and complain about the Japanamerican voice overs but in the end, you will continue to play this game and like it or not...you WILL like it!

Tee Off is a fun game but diehard fans may find it disapointing. The game is based around fun and is easy to play and to get into. There are various different modes of play which improve the longitivity of the game, so you and your friends can battle it out to see who is the best. There is also an option to unlock new characters and new equipment though getting high scores.
