Great Game!

This review comes from an equestrian video gamer who has played everything from Rosemond Hill to Equestriad 2001 and all 3 of the Riding Star series. After downloading this game for only $2.15, I didn't expect much from it - but boy was I impressed! Not only are the graphics good, but the gameplay is smooth and the competitions get more difficult as you increase in level. There is not a storyline, just competitions that you must train for and compete. The horse is controlled with a-s-d-w "arrow keys" and the spacebar to jump. You must train your horses in order to gain enough points to compete at the next level of competition. There are 12 jumping levels, 10(?) dressage levels, and 5 "rallying" (their word for cross country) levels. What I thought was unique about this game was that during riding gameplay, the horse needed to recover its strength, stamina, and jumping power in order to run faster and jump higher.

The only 2 issues I have with this game are that: (1) the training can be a bit repetitive at times and seem to take a long time when you get to the upper levels, and (2) the screen has frozen on me a few times (although it may be due to my computer).

Overall, I say [especially for the price], you cannot go wrong with this game. If you're a fan of horses, you will definitely enjoy Championship Riding Star!

I loved the game Lucinda Greens Equestrian Challenge, but I have pretty much got gold on all the levels so I went looking for another horse game. When I saw this for $2.99 and saw some videos on YouTube, I thought, why not. This is the same game as Riding Star 2.

Well, training your horse is tedious. You have to keep going around the same boring course/jumps over and over and over and wait for it to say "stamina +1" and such. This could take forever! There is no free ride where you can just go bounding off anywhere you want to, but I believe there is in Riding Star 3.

The graphics are decent, but compared to what I was playing, not spectacular in any way.

I finally just went to a tournament and you have to start out at E level and work up to A, again, this could take forever and become tedious. I tried each area in E level on a very untrained horse and placed, but the courses were very short. I found the dressage to be a bit difficult and they don't tell you too much in the tutorial. They want you to go from a walk to a gallop then back to walk using your W and S keys in a very short time, which I find nearly impossible when I'm trying to steer the horse with the A and D keys at the same time! Then there are these little mini games where you trace a route with your cursor. Yawn.

I went into free mode which let's you do rally, jumping, and dressage at A level. I thought, here we go, longer courses, more areas, nope. Short courses, really boring dressage, and really no challenge at all.

The grooming may become necessary later in the game, but at the start, there is really nothing to do there. It's also tedious.

I am looking for a game where you can do different courses, areas, etc. to get a change of scenery, not the same thing over and over all the time. I'll play it off and on when I'm extremely bored, but I'm rethinking my possible purchase of Riding Star 3.

If you want a top notch horse riding game, get the one I mentioned in the first paragraph.

So far so good... I agree with everything chickjd said and in addition I'll just add:

This game is named "Riding Star2" within the game and looks the same as the YouTube vid under the same name... which is cool because I could find that game nowhere online.) This game is also available to download at facebook I think, but I don't do facebook, and another site I tried but it was problematic. For 2.99 here, this is great!

I'm only on the second day of play, but it's all working so far (I have an xp older ibm pc with a pixel shader 2 graphic card if that matters?) The graphics and movement of the horse are good enough to enjoy the game alright. It was challenging at first to use my left hand to do ALL the controls up, down, left @ right... (it suggests you use the mouse for left and right but that did not work for me, I needed my right hand on the space bar for jumping... but it's great to use the space bar to jump) but after that I started to have fun. And even if you place poorly the first time, you can just as easily hit "repeat" and do it again and again till you win with no penalty that I've noticed. The tutorial is a bit drawn out but worth it... especially so you can learn the more unusual dressage actions like using your mouse to trace the shape on the screen quickly to make a figure ?? THAT was different! but easy. I'm glad to see there are yet many more levels and activities to do. As long as it continues to run smoothly, it's a worthy horse game. Of course things like Planet Horse and Horse Life Adventures Wii are better, but for a snappy little play on your PC horse game, it works well.

Graphics are a bit low . but all in all its a nice basic horse eventing game.
its much like its older sibling for the PS2. but you can choose the horse to enter in all of the events instead of one horse doing just of of the 3 events like on the PS2 verison
