Description: Colonies on CMA 1.3–1.5 cm diam. in 7 days at 27 ℃, loosely cottony, white, with roughmargins, reverse white. Thallus endobiotic, composed of narrow, irregular, branched hyphae,3–8 μm wide, completely permeating the body of nematodes, holocarpic. At maturity hyphaebecome sparingly septate into elongate zoosporangial segments, which do not swell up, thenhyphae protrude irregularly throught the host to form discharge tubes. Discharge tubes simple, solitary, sinuate, variable in length, 25–400 μm long by 3–4 μm wide, the zoosporangial protoplasmis evacuated into a well-defined vesicle at the tip through the discharge tube. Insidethe vesicle, 2–6 zoospores developed, then released by rupture of the vesicle wall. Zoosporeslarge, globose in appearance, 10–13 × 7–9 μm, biflagellate with the flagella emerging fromlateral groove. Zoospores encyst directly on the host in the vicinity of the body orifices (buccalcavity, anus, vulva) where they frequently form large clusters. Cysts spherical, about 10μm in diameter, germinating to produce a germ tube which penetrates the host orifice to initiateinfection.

Note: Both Lagenidium and Myzocytium are endobiotic and holocarpic. They are morphologically similar. However Lagenidium is characterized by producing hypha-like sporangia, while Myzocytium producing subglobose sporangia from swollen hyphae which may become disarticulate (Li et al., 2000).
