No rumors here: Lindsay Lohan‘s debut album, Speak, dropped today (Dec. 7) 10 years ago.
Debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 charts, the album wasn’t a huge smash, but it was part of Lohan’s most successful year (a year which included the release of the classic film Mean Girls as well as the filming of kiddie movie Herbie Fully Loaded.) We’re not saying Lohan should necessarily go back to music, but in honor of the anniversary of her first album, we’re looking back on both of her CDs (A Little More Personal (Raw) was released in December 2005), and highlighting five songs you may not know, but that should be added into your pop playlist on your iPod.
Note: We’re excluding songs she did for movies, but, yes, we know that “Ultimate” and “Teenage Drama Queen” have their fans as well. Who knows? Break one of these songs out at a your next dance party and you might be unexpectedly happy at the result.
1. “Rumors”
Lohan’s hard-partying single that told fans they didn’t know the real story about her life is A.) A great dance floor song and B.) would come to define Lohan’s next decade in and out of the tabloids.

2. “Over”
Moody Lohan was the best Lohan — and the most ideal for channeling when you’re singing into your hairbrush.
3. “Confessions of A Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)”
With echos of Britney Spears’ “Lucky,” this dark story — which, like most of Lohan’s best work, plays on her raspy voice — certainly made a splash when it (and the disturbing video) was first released.
4. “A Beautiful Life”
“I’m starting to feel/ all of my bruises imagined are real,” living la vida Lohan croons. It’s a throwaway track, but surprisingly catchy, both in 2005 and now.
5. “Edge of Seventeen”
Everybody breathe: We’re certainly not saying Lohan’s cover replaces Stevie Nicks’ iconic original. But Lohan’s raspy vocals are a perfect match for the track, and it may just be one of our favorite of the covers.
