Lepidopteran larva.
Description:
Stromata solitary or multiple, unbranched, 5-15 mm long and 1-1.5 mm broad, orange yellow, cylindrical to enlarging apically. Rhizoids flexuous, arising from the head region of host larvae buried 5-32 mm deep underground. Fertile part vivid reddish orange, cylindrical to clavate, elliptical, 2-6 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm broad. Perithecia superficial, ovoid, 340-500 × 180-250. Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, up to 350 × 4-5 μm, with cap 2-3 μm thick. Ascospores hyaline, multi-septate, 200-330 × 1-1.5 μm. Ascospores germinated after 24 h, conidia ovoid, cylindrical with age, one-celled, 2-5 × 1.5-2 μm. Anamorph: Conidial arrangement, evlachovaea-like.
Culture characteristics:
Colony on PDA attaining a diam of 20 mm in 10 d, cottony with high mycelium density, white to strong purplish red, reddish pigment diffusing in medium. Phialides arising from aerial hyphae, solitary or in whorls of two to five on each branch, swollen at the base or slightly flask-shaped, 10–20 × 1.5–3 μm, tapering from the base to the apex, 2–5 × 1 μm.
