Geum aleppicum, yellow avens, is a perennial plant that produces bright yellow flowers in the late spring to early summer. Growing 2-3 feet tall, this plant prefers full sun to partial shade and moist to wet soil.
Yellow avens is highly attractive to butterflies, particularly swallowtails, as well as important host plants for the caterpillars of the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly. Additionally, this plant provides food and habitat for a variety of bird species.
