Unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and aliens have been hot topics of discussion for decades. Over the years, there have been several people who have shared their experiences with UFOs and alien spotting.

Aliens, UFO: Myth or reality

Many people believe that there are several research projects regarding UFOs and aliens going on in the US. There are conspiracy theories that a highly classified United States Air Force (USAF) facility called Area 51 is a place where the US conducts research experiments on aliens and UFOs.

Area 51 conspiracy theory

The Area 51 alien research myth has been busted several times. However, a retired US Air Force captain named Robert Salas has recently claimed that a UFO attacked his nuclear missile station nearly 60 years ago.

On the show National Geographic’s UFOs: Investigating the Unknown, Robert Salas claimed that on March 24, 1967, he and his colleagues saw eight orange-coloured lights over the base, which was holding 10 nuclear missiles.

The retired officer claimed that reddish-orange lights were seen moving towards them where 10 nuclear missiles were kept. They had deactivated all the missiles, and the guards had to escape from the location to protect themselves.

The retired US Air Force captain also revealed that he got a call from one of the members of his unit but he sort of disregarded it. In fact, he asked, “You mean like UFOs?". About five minutes later, the member called back screaming.

Robert Salas said that he felt that he was sure by then that they were being attacked, and when the lights changed from green to red throughout the board, it was clear that the missiles were no longer functional.

In the documentary, Robert Salas claimed that despite the fact that most of the nuclear missiles were damaged during the incident, no official inquiry was opened on the matter.

According to the retired captain's statement, the chiefs in his unit were compelled to sign contracts stating that they would maintain confidentiality regarding the matter. Robert Salas said that during the incident, a large part of the US' nuclear capability was wiped out, however, it was not investigated.

Three years later, the US government officially closed the investigation, stating that the documented sightings of the UFO had not caused any threat or damage. "That was certainly a lie," claimed Robert Salas.
