Purple Prairie Clover, Dalea purpurea, is a perennial wildflower native to the central United States, where it occurs in dry open prairies. Purple Prairie Clover grows up to 3 feet tall with multiple stems, each topped with a cylindrical, purple flower. It has excellent drought tolerance due to its long tap root, which can penetrate up to 6 feet. Bloom season last from late spring through summer and attracts butterflies and other pollinators. Purple Prairie Clover is a host plant for the Dogface Sulfur butterfly.
