Constella Details (Brand and Generic)

Canada Pharmacy Online carries the brand name version of Constella, also known as Linzess, which Allergan manufactures. There is no generic available at this time.

Dosage

The brand Constella comes in three strengths: 72 mcg, 145 mcg, and 290 mcg capsules; for more information about dosages, please refer to the product monograph.

Usage

Constella (Linaclotide) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of certain types of bowel problems, such as irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults (source). Linaclotide is a class of medication called guanylate cyclase-C agonists; it works by increasing fluid in your intestines, which can soften stools and stimulate bowel movements. This medication may improve stool texture and lessen symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain or discomfort, and straining.

Side Effects

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

According to WebMD, the common side effects of Constella may include:
• Bloating;
• Diarrhea;
• Gas;
• Stomach or abdominal pain

Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any signs of any severe side effects or signs of an allergic reaction or if you experience:
• Severe diarrhea that won’t stop;
• Feeling lightheaded;
• Difficult breathing, hives, swelling of your face/lips/tongue/throat;

Warnings and Interactions

The following are several precautions and interactions associated with Constella; please check out the full prescribing information for a comprehensive list: you should not use Linzess if you are allergic to Linaclotide or if you have any allergies or any of the other ingredients in this medication; or if you have a blockage in your intestines (bowel obstruction). Before taking this medication, talk to your doctor about all your medicines, including prescription, OTC, and herbal medications. Also, tell them about any vitamins and supplements you take. Inform your doctor of your complete medical history, especially gastrointestinal blockage, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk or will harm your unborn baby. This medication should not be used for children under six years old and is not recommended for children between 6 and 18 years old.
