The Shire of Christmas Island gave me autonomy to create a mural reflective of my style with a desire for bright colours to break up the concrete grey colours at the new restorative Foreshore Padang development project.
I had been studying the flora on the island in that last year. I thought it only fitting to create an image of the flora seen at people’s homes , easily identifiable and typical of any tropical climate -e.g. hibiscus and frangipanni.
I also created a panel of stylised floral images of 16 endemic plants of Christmas Island that I was able to identify in my time on the island, so as to create interest into the unique native flora of the island. There were 2 plants I could not clearly identify or discover on the island that were not included on the mural, but appear on the documented list sourced from link :-
