A new spot to drink, plant and be merry in Over-the-Rhine is just about to open.

Tipsy Terrarium, an activity-based business centered around building terrariums — glass containers filled with soil and plants — will open its doors Aug. 28 inside 3CDC's Rennen & Beecher Flats development Downtown on 15th Steet.

Owner Ravee Elmer said the business grew from a hobby she picked up during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to bond with her daughter. She quickly gained an Instagram following, and friends convinced her to move out of her apartment into a brick-and-mortar storefront to host her own terrarium-building classes.

Elmer uses a variety of succulents and hybrid cactus plants in her terrariums, which do not require a lot of water or attention, and are easy care for plant beginners.

At the core of Tipsy Terrarium are the classes Elmer offers, which include adult classes where participants can bring their own alcoholic beverages and private parties. She also offers "Junior Seeds," aimed at 11- to 17 year-olds, and "PB&J," a class for children 10 and younger.

Participants are allowed to bring their own food, drinks and decorations to classes, which can be booked online.

Tipsy Terrarium "is something different that I haven't seen in the city," Elmer said. "It's therapeutic, and it offers something new for people to do."
