Dr. I. Denise Magee - Principal

"During the school year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the students of Betty Gray Middle School the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be world-class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school. As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Dr. Magee started her educational career as a Trainee School Psychologist with the Ministry of Education in the Bahamas. She was hired as a special education teacher and school counselor at Campbell HS when she first entered the Cobb County School District. She was also promoted to administration at Campbell HS where she served one semester as an Assistant Administrator before her promotion to an Assistant Principal. She left Campbell HS and continued her career as an Assistant Principal at Pebblebrook HS for four years before obtaining her first Principalship. She served as principal at Tapp MS, Campbell MS, and Campbell HS. She is elated and honored to serve as the Principal of Betty Gray Middle School.

She was born and raised in the Bahamas where she received all of her earlier education in Episcopal Schools. She graduated from high school at the early age of sixteen and pursued education as her career. Dr. Magee is a strong believer in education. She holds five different degrees and brings thirty years of educational and administrative experience to BGMS. She is passionate about what she does and very committed to all of her students, staff, and parents.

Tida Bruce-Banfield - Assistant Principal   

     “As a resident of the Mableton area, I am truly vested in the success of our students and their families. I look forward to working with our phenomenal scholars, educators, and stakeholders to promote student performance and the success of ALL Falcons. It is truly an honor to be an LSGA Falcon and to serve this amazing community!"

           Mrs. Bruce-Banfield was originally a native of Guyana, South America. She was raised in Brooklyn, New York, and is a proud product of the New York City School System. In January 2003, in search of a warmer climate, she moved to Georgia. Since then, she has been a proud employee of the Cobb County School District. Over the last 15 years, she has acquired diverse experiences within the Cobb County School District both in teaching and teacher leadership. These experiences include K-5 elementary, middle school math, special education, and gifted education. Her areas of strength are Curriculum and Instruction, Innovative Model opportunities, Technology Integration, and STEAM education. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration from St. Johns University, a Master of Science degree from Mercer University in Teaching, a Specialist degree in Instructional Technology, and a Specialist degree from Berry College in Educational Leadership. Mrs. Banfield is passionate about education and firmly believes that every child deserves an academically challenging and engaging, education experience. “Our kids deserve it!”

She currently resides in the Mableton community with her family. Her husband, who is also a Cobb County teacher/coach-GO PEBBLEBROOK Soccer! They have three amazing children a– 20-year-old son, a 10-year-old son, and a 7-year-old daughter. Personally, she enjoys spending her time with her family, soccer/dance/gymnastic mom duties, all things education, and generally just enjoying the life she and her husband have worked to build.

Dr. Joy Jones is an enthusiastic and visionary educational leader who has dedicated her career to fostering a positive and empowering learning environment for students and educators alike. With a deep commitment to excellence in education and a focus on student success, Dr. Jones brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role as Assistant Principal.

Dr. Jones is a Cobb County School District high school graduate. Her educational experiences include a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Master of Arts in Teaching, an Educational Specialist degree in Teaching and Learning, and a Doctor of Education in Teacher Leadership.  In 2007, she joined CCSD as a 7th grade Life Science teacher at Lindley 7/8. Dr. Jones has also served as an Academic Coach at Floyd Middle School from 2013-2018 and an Assistant Principal at Tapp Middle School from 2018-2023.

Dr. Jones’s commitment to educational advocacy is at the heart of her work. She is an advocate for students and staff and truly believes in the power of collaboration to enhance a community. Dr. Jones strives to create a learning environment that is safe, fun, friendly, fair, orderly, and caring. She believes a learning atmosphere should promote honesty, courage, self-belief, hard work, and integrity, and as a result, help students reach their goals.

James Strong - Assistant Principal   

James Strong is a product of South Carolina, who came to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College. After graduating from college, he worked with many diverse student body populations as a seasoned school leader with over twenty years of educational experience in the Metro Atlanta area.

Mr. Strong's work experience consists of being a high school math teacher, local school administrator, school district athletic director, and school director of safety and student discipline. Having experience at all levels, Mr. Strong feels most impactful at the local school level through building relationships with the students, staff, and community as he strives to provide a safe and nurturing environment for students to learn and teachers to be able to teach.

Amy has a solid special education background and is coming to us from Dekalb County School District. Her experiences include being a special education department chair and a special education lead teacher. As a leadership team, we felt confident that she would be a perfect match for the two schools she will be supporting, and her high school experience will benefit the successful transition of our middle schoolers to high school.
