You will either need to look for a used (older) notebook, or buy one with an external ExpressCard socket -- just about no new systems (including Macs;  remember, firewire is Apple technology) have built-in firewire.

There are still business-class (Latitude E and Precision mobile) systems that have external ExpressCard sockets - you can then install an ExpressCard firewire controller.

Firewire has been abandoned by most Vendors including Apple.

Last units I remember were Ricoh 1394 OHCI firewire on

Dell Latitude E6410

USB to Firewire is still available.  Must be at LEAST USB 2.0

and there may be issues with USB 3.0 but I don't own one so YMMV.This unit works with ANY PC desktop or Laptop but keep in mind that the Firewire port on this device DOES NOT PROVIDE 12v Firewire Power.  For that you need a Firewire Hub with external power supply.
