Notes
Greg Edmonson Firefly [Original Television Soundtrack] Varese Sarabande - For a show that lasted only one season, it has outlived many that have gone on to future seasons. Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) created one of the most loved science fiction Television shows about a ship called Serenity that travels the galaxies. Adding to all the drama and action is composer Greg Edmonson's iconic score.

  • Inspiring and yet short just like the series.

I'll preface this review by noting that the soundtrack covers the main music from the series but seems short because there were only 14 episodes on which to compose. To me, this makes it feel unfinished in that the music won't convey a conclusion if the story it is translating is also incomplete. As far as the tracks, most have a decent length and all are named appropriately for identifying their scene association. It has many different emotions flowing throughout and is best listened to right before a rewatching of the series. You'll recognize the pieces more clearly that way without the scenes distracting. The first track is the opening theme and immediately sets the tone for the album. It is bittersweet how short both the show and this tune are. I'd love for ...

  • Excellent CD Soundtrack!

I really loved the Sci Fi series "Firefly" and was happy to be able to buy this CD as it brings back fond memories. The original music scores by Greg Edmonson are truly unique and enjoyable. The melodies really stick in your head. The liner notes (& pictures) are interesting, as well, and it makes you remember what a good thing "Firefly" was and what a shame it is that it got cancelled prematurely. I would highly recommend this product, and I would also highly recommend the series on DVD, as it has a lot of extra features, unaired shows and commentary from Joss Whedon, the creator of the series.

  • Firefly Soundtrack

The music for the Firefly TV show mixes Western blues, World beats and a smidgen of Celtic music. Firefly was one of those TV shows that flew under the radar of just about everybody. My guess is that poor advertizing and zero network backing was the culprit. Luckily I watched the movie version called SERENITY in the theaters and was immediately taken by the characters and feel of the movie. I went out and purchased the first and only season of Firefly on DVD and it's become one of my family's favorite TV shows ever. Set in the future the show centers around a diverse and quirky crew on a Firefly space ship. The show is a cross between a Western and a Sci Fi space adventure. It's got humor, action and drama. Do yourself a favor and get the series DVD box set ...

  • Freshes thing in the verse

If you can get past the far fetched story line, you'll fine some of the best writing that I've ever seen from Whedon, or most people that have ever done a series for that matter. The plots were so original and diverse, the I thought the character bounces off one another very well. Josh created a universe here that was fresh, some might say that it was a copy of starwars, but I'm sorry to say allthough Lucas could make some grand space battlkes happen in his hayday, his character interaction or depth pf those characters were lagging light years behind Josh's bunch. The series get's an A from me.

  • The music truly carries the soul of the show

Like so many others, I first experienced the music of Firefly by watching the show. The music is an uncredited character/narrator. It captures the fusion of Western and Eastern cultures that comprised the Alliance. The fun, free spirit that lifts so many of the songs portrays the search for freedom that the Serenity crew are engaged in. Although a knowledge of the episodes adds nostalgia to your listening experience, the blend of world beats and western themes takes on a life of its own. Quite simply, the work stands on it's own and shines!
