Sally M. (Backiel, Salomeja) Benson of New Britain, who was born January 22, 1925, began her journey home to the Lord on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She will meet her husband, Philmore E. Benson, and daughter, Nancy Daoust in her new home who both left her too soon.
She is survived by her only son, Robert K. Benson, and his wife Bonnie; her grandchildren, Jason, Melissa, and Reggie, all of Aurora, Colorado; and her great-grandchildren, Dominic Davis, Kyleigh Knapp, and Connor Ross, also of Aurora, CO.
Sally was a lifelong New Britain resident. She was a woman of strong faith and for many years a parishioner and volunteer at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington. She loved pets, bingo, and decorating cakes, especially wedding cakes.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
