Mrs. Todd's Shortcut is a short story by Stephen King that originally appeared in the book Skeleton Crew. This audiobook version is read by David Purdham and is a highly sought-after edition on cassette. Driving was sure something different for Ophelia Todd. She would take her little Mercedes two-seater out on dirt roads no one had heard of before or since. Ophelia was always looking for a shorter distance between two points. No one could say how she did it, but she found a route that cut the distance to Bangor to way shorter than the crow flies. She said you just wrinkled the map a little... They said she ended in a place nobody wanted to even talk about. The next time you see a small faded sign that appears to point the way to a great shortcut, think twice... and then drive on by. Some wrinkles don't come out - ever.
