Range: South and Central Texas and northern Mexico (Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas ).

Thelocactus setispinus, also known as Hamatocactus setispinus, produces a succession of large, yellow, silky flowers with bright red centers in summer and early autumn. It is usually a solitary stem, rarely sprouting near base to produce 2-3 branches. It grows in Texas and northern Mexico. Grow in a fast-draining container in a porous, mostly mineral soil mix. Water and feed weekly in summer with a quarter-strength, balanced fertilizer. Grow it in full sun or partial shade, It is cold hardy to 15°F if kept dry.

Germination of cactus seeds is about timing, temperature, quality of seeds, cleanliness, and establishing a technique for sowing. Some species have a higher germination rate, and/or a lower germination time than others. For that reason a specific success rate can't be guaranteed.
