After losing two world title fights by majority points decision in the space of seventeen months, Paul Briggs is understandably upset.

Twice he has gone to war with WBC light heavyweight world champion Tomasz Adamek and twice the 29-year-old from Poland has been the one to have his hand raised in victory.

"I'm shattered," Briggs told SecondsOut. "I thought I had just done enough with dropping him and the point deduction for the low blow.
"The rest of the rounds were back and forth. It's funny, because everyone over here thinks the same, except for the judges obviously. I haven't spoken to one person who thought I lost it."

Two judges scored the fight for Adamek 114-112 and 115-111 last weekend in Chicago, with the third scoring a draw 113-113. The first time they fought last year, Adamek prevailed 115-113, 117-113 and 114-114.

Adamek's left jab was impressive, while Briggs' right hand did a lot of damage.

"I don't know if a jab is worth more than a right hand," said Briggs. "The judges just didn't seem to see it my way."

Briggs 25-3 (18) came out aggressive in round one and dropped Adamek 31-0 (21) to the canvas with a straightening left hook, which landed flush on 29 year-old Adamek's jaw.

"He has never been sat on his ass like that," he said. "I just whipped the end of the punch in and caught him beautiful. I think he is the best fighter in the division, so to sit him on his ass like I did was telling."

The 30-year-old Australian knows that he is not far away from a world title win and will not retire.

"I'm not hanging them up," he said. "I can fight and I am exciting to watch. Jim Lampley and lots over people are telling me it was the best combined 24 rounds they have ever seen.
"There are some good things for me over here now. I am building a great fan base now, even though I am not winning."

Twelve more months hard work with world champion trainer Johnny Lewis and there is no limit on what Briggs can achieve.

"Johnny is a legend," he said. "He is an absolute legend. I was really happy with my corner in general. I have got a real great special team."

Knowing that he cannot sit around and wait for another world title opportunity, Briggs is keen to be more active and fight the best opposition available.

"I'll have a look and see what's out there," he said. "I can't sit back and have one fight a year at this level. It is just not enough.
"I can't sit in Australia and fight nobodies either. I want some real fights and there are plenty of guys over here in the USA that I want to fight."

Briggs returns to Australia this weekend after spending a week in Los Angeles to catch up with some friends. One thing he will be sure to see when he sits down to watch their rematch on tape is that Adamek's face was more beaten than his own.

"Just like our first fight," agreed Briggs.
