VANILLA DAISY Leucheria suaveolens

  • Vanilla-daisy

Vanilla Daisies are one of 13 endemic species of plants in the Falkland Islands, found no where else in the world.

They are named for, and unmistakable with their strong smell of vanilla. The soft greeny/ grey leaves are long and deeply indented. The single flower on a stem is made up of a rosette of many white petals and has a central yellow core. Seeds are carried as parachutes from a round cluster, similar to dandelions. They flower November to January.

Vanilla daisies are common on East and West Falklands. They are most likely to be seen in long white grass and on Diddle- dee heathlands.
