After five months of often violent Yellow Vest protests, Macron has announced a range of measures in response to their frustration, such as tax cuts, stopping the closure of schools and hospitals in rural areas, and the abolition of his own alma mater, France's elite training ground for civil servants, the École Nationale d'Administration -- often admired abroad, but a bête noir of some French activists.

These announcements come after Macron's national debate, a three-month series of meetings in which he discussed issues from high taxes to direct democracy with citizens across France.
