1. Skansen, a historic Stockholm Christmas Market

  • Location: Skansen, Djurgården
  • Dates: Friday to Sunday from November 24 to December 17

Dating back to 1903, Skansen is my favorite Christmas Market as it takes you through time and offers an authentic Swedish experience.

The Skansen Christmas market is held on Bollnästorget . Here there are about 70 market stalls filled with delicacies such as marzipan and wool handicrafts. When you get hungry, indulge in everything from sweet to salty taste experiences.

2. Stortorget, Sweden’s oldest Christmas Market

  • Location: Stortorget, Gamla Stan
  • Date: 20th November to 23rd December

On the small and intimate Stortorget in Gamla Stan, you will find Stockholm’s oldest and most famous Christmas markets. Stortorget’s Christmas market started in 1837 and is Sweden’s oldest Christmas market.

Every winter Stortorget is transformed into a winter fairy tale where 41 red stalls stretch along the cobblestone streets and sell candies, art, gnomes, and burnt almonds.

But what makes Stortorget’s Christmas market special is the atmosphere – it’s like stepping into an old-fashioned postcard. For sure a rival for any of the big Christmas markets in Germany.

3. Sigtuna, perfect for a winter day trip

  • Dates: November 26, December 3, December 10 and December 17

The Sigtuna traditional Christmas market is held for just four Sundays in Advent. And even though it’s outside of Stockholm, it has become very popular and is definitely worth a day trip to.

At Christmas time Sigtuna’s picturesque streets are filled with market stalls and food markets where you can buy unique crafts and local delicacies, and meet Santa.

In addition to markets and food, Sigtuna has a packed program of Christmas music with everything from choirs to St Lucia trains.

4. Taxinge Castle, Sweden’s largest Christmas Market

  • Location: Taxinge Castle, Nykvarn
  • Date: November 17th – 19th

At Taxinge Castle there are over 100 of the country’s best craftsmen, making it Sweden’s largest Christmas market. Take your time here to make sure you see all the beautiful stalls selling handmade products.

And of course, don’t forget to sample the Christmas delicacies at Taxinge Slott. If you have a sweet tooth, visiting Sweden’s largest cake table is a must. If you stay until darkness darkness creeps in, you’ll also experience the lighting of several bonfires.

5. The Farmer’s Christmas Market, a small-scale Stockholm Christmas Market

  • Location: Tessinparken, Östermalm
  • Dates: December 2, December 9, and December 16

The Farmer’s Christmas market in Stockholm is a tribute to locally produced goods. It is the best Christmas market in Stockholm if you want to shop small-scale, freshly harvested, and organic.

At the Farmer’s Christmas Market, you will be greeted by fresh produce and handcrafts from Swedish farms and producers. Here you can buy everything from vegetables, jams, and meat that comes directly from Swedish farmers.

The farmer’s Christmas market is the market in Stockholm where you get the closest to a rustic country Christmas with lots of charm. Right in the middle of the city.

6. Drottningholm Palace, a classic Christmas Market

  • Location: Drottningholm Castle, Ekerö

At Drottningholm Castle, you are invited to a royal experience with a classic Christmas market that has the castle’s facade as a background. The stalls sell local crafts and Swedish Christmas food such as Christmas ham.

In addition, if you go here on a crisp and sunny day, you can combine a visit to the Christmas market with a lovely walk through the castle park.

7. Beckman’s Christmas Market, for unique gifts

  • Location: Beckmans School of Design, Östermalm
  • Date: Not determined yet

No two years are the same at Beckman’s Christmas market as it is the students at the Beckman School of Design who sell their crafts. This means you can find creative and quirky Christmas gifts that no one else has.

Most often, the Christmas market has been at the school itself, but some years Beckman’s Christmas market has collaborated with Rosendal’s Garden.

8. Christmas at the court stable, a top-class Christmas market

  • Location: H. M. The King’s court stables, Östermalm
  • Date: From December 8 to December 10

From December 8th you can visit Christmas at the Royal Stables, Hovstallet. The royal environment at Hovstallet ensures a Christmas market where elegance meets tradition.

A large number of stalls here sell handmade crafts, gifts, and local foods. You can also check out the king’s horses and participate in guided tours.

9. Steninge Slottsby, the best indoor Christmas market

  • Location: Stone barn in Steninge Slottsby, Märsta
  • Dates: From November 11 to December 23

Every year, Stenladan in Steninge castle village opens its doors and invites you to a Christmas party. Steninge is an indoor Christmas market – perfect for cold or wet days.

Here you’ll find handmade gifts, wreaths, and flowers all gathered under one roof. Need a break? Visit the cafe and treat yourself to a freshly baked bun, or two.

10. Vaxholm Christmas market, a Christmas market by the sea

  • Location: Camp and Bogesund, Vaxholm
  • Date: TBD

Experience a Christmas market in the heart of Stockholm’s archipelago, Vaxholm. Vaxholm is a traditional Christmas market with one exception — you are surrounded by the sea. For a unique experience watch as Santa enters the market by boat instead of reindeer. After, explore the archipelago of Vaxholm and try some winter swimming.

11. Christmas at Gröna Lund, a new winter paradise

  • Location: Gröna Lund, Djurgården
  • Date: Not determined yet

In 2022, Gröna Lund launched Winter Wonderland, transforming the amusement park into a magical fairytale world. This winter, Gröna Lund will be full of more fairytales, fun winter activities, and winter attractions.

The perfect market for children, here the little ones can test out the fairground rides, while you enjoy the candied apples, burnt almonds, and warming mulled wine.
