“Peter is one of those rare diplomats able to communicate and manage effectively at the weird and complex border between universities and their IT suppliers. The two have different cultures, different language, different rules of discourse, different expectations, and so good collaborations are hard to find. Apple's University Executive Forum has on occasion been one such good collaboration -- not perfect, of course, but better than all but one or two others. The most recent period of UEF effectiveness was due in large part to Peter's skill and dedication. Everyone -- at both Apple and the member universities -- was demanding, and some of us were difficult. Moreover, we were often at cross purposes. Peter's skill was finding the fertile collaborative ground hidden among the scrubby adversarial thickets. This often required him to tackle delicate tasks -- for example, getting me to shut up. He did this when he had to, but maintained the respect and even friendship of those involved. As I said, it's a rare skill. Peter will be of great value to whoever snares him.”
