IT'S ABOUT TIME MY LIVED EXPERIENCE BECAME AN ASSET TO OTHERS. As a survivor of childhood trauma, I was well equipped to work on a framework diagram detailing how trauma-informed, healing-oriented care would have a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing throughout their lifespan. This brief came from a forward-thinking Mental Health and Wellbeing Consultant who wanted to turn the famous 'CDC-Kaiser ACE Study Pyramid' on its head. Thanks to my experiences and an understanding of this existing theory, I could clearly see the intent, messaging, and outcomes the Consultant needed to fully realise their vision. My own self-development journey has provided me with an invaluable lens of compassion, authenticity, and inspiration. Professionally, this unique insight and understanding allow me to create engaging platforms that connect audiences and stakeholders. I can get to the heart of a project pretty quickly. By co-designing, I was able to suggest the concept of 'positive vs. negative' and to use two opposing pyramids. The result is a spectacular piece of advocacy work. I’m proud to have influenced theory development and language with such a learned colleague. Creating a graphic asset that builds on existing research while adding important new foundational concepts. Showing how healing-oriented practice can be the circuit breaker to address the negative effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences while detailing the protective and risk factors regarding social and cultural determinants of health.
