Hey friends, it’s been a minute since I gave an update on my life and work status. First and foremost, I will say I’ve really enjoyed my “sabbatical” – especially during the best season to play in MN. I picked up some freelance projects which have been fun and a good reminder I have experience and skills that add value to people and orgs - whew😅!
It’s amazing when you have time for soul-searching, because what I thought I wanted in April is different than what I'm looking for today. Initially, I was focused more on Marketing as a whole, vs. the very specific discipline of social media and content marketing. I thought it would be good for me to open the aperture a bit and further diversify my experience. This is still true, but two things can be true at once, because I also really love content, sharing stories people care about, engaging people with a great social campaign, article or video, or frankly even a clever post. Deeply understanding the audience, a sharp strategy and compelling creative that brings it all to life is what excites me the most. And I truly believe brands who do it well are deepening their relationships with customers and driving awareness with prospects. Great content can drive short and long-term growth, the short-term is just way easier to measure.
Thanks to my friend Zach Blume, I recently met a recruiter who specializes in placing leaders in the digital marketing and content space. He gave me some tough love, "…for someone who loves content so much, it’s not coming through in your own story, or on your LinkedIn page.” Guilty 😬. Telling my own story is so much harder than telling anyone else’s, and I fully admit to being more of a voyeur on LinkedIn than someone who drives the conversation. (My friend Lindsey Slaby may have said the exact thing to me a few times, but sometimes I need to be hit with a verbal brick before I get it.)
Well past TL;DR territory, I’ll share I am actively looking for full-time work in the content and social space. I have loved being part of larger brand teams and know driving engagement is my sweet spot – both digitally and via IRL brand activations.
Given it's holiday and hiring tends to slow down, I am also open to consulting gigs and projects to help with that end-of-the-year budget surplus some lucky marketers uncover this time of the year. Help spread the word! 📣
Thanks to all who have supported me in this journey – I will acknowledge you all in a future post, but know there is nothing more valuable than a personal referral for a specific job. More than ever, it’s who you know!
Shout-out to Jack Appleby and Amanda Goetz for the launch of their new product Break an Egg – just what I needed to spark my own content on LinkedIn.
✌
