"BLACK GILL DISEASE in Litopenaeus vannamei" Diseases are one of the major constraints for the sustainable shrimp production in India. Recently, the black gill diseases of shrimp causes substantial damage to shrimp culture system due to the chronic mortalities in grow out ponds during the end of the culture. Basically, it is prevalent due poor water quality, heavy organic load in the pond bottom and further the higher densities are some of the factors for this disease. Due to this problem the growths of animal slow down and lowered survival rate. Due to poor survival, the cost benefit ratio (CBR) of the grow- out system will be less. The severe black gill disease leads to the mortality of shrimps in the cultured ponds. Farmers are suggested that maintain good water quality parameter throughout the culture period. Frequently clean the pond bottom and check the fungal infestation in the gills. PROCURE GOOD QUALITY SEED FROM THE CERTIFIED HATCHERIES.
