Another new Coffea species described! Important to make attempts to locate this species in the wild.

Coffee in Central Africa: diversity, conservation and valorisation

Today we are proud to announce the publication of a new coffee species from SW Cameroon, Coffea rizetiana Stoff. & M.Noirot. It is a new species with big, black, fleshy fruits, closely related to Coffea liberica Hiern and Coffea montekupensis Stoff. Coffea rizetiana is probably extinct in the wild, but living collections are preserved in the Coffee germplasm collection at Bassin Martin (Reunion, France) and in Meise Botanic Garden (Belgium). How can #Ukraine's invaluable #plant genetic resources be kept safe from the war? The Crop Trust visit to the USDA Wolfskill Experimental Orchard, a national clonal germplasm repository located at Davis, California. The repository is dedicated to the conservation and management of genetic resources of Mediterranean fruit and nut crop species. Globally, clonal collections are threatened since they are rarely safety duplicated. The Global Cryopreservation Initiative is key to ensuring that these valuable genetic resources are conserved in perpetuity. Stefan S.

Great gathering of many African genebanks in Lusaka this week.

The Seeds for Resilience GOAL workshop brought together representatives from 17 African genebanks. Attendees participated in training sessions to enhance staff capacity and expertise, covering areas such as quality management, information systems, finance, and communications.
