Ajinajo, tajinaste (Echium aculeatum)

Densely branched, compact shrub, occasionally growing to over 1 m. Leaves linear, very hairy and spiny. Inflorescences more or less conical and composed of numerous white flowers. Endemic to the Canary Islands and found in abundance on Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro, whereas in La Palma it is scarce, in comparison with its nearest relative, Echium brevirame. Typical of xeric and thermophile habitats from sea level to 1,500 m, where it penetrates open formations of Canary Island pine.
