Lantisco (Periploca laevigata ssp. chevalieri)

Evergreen, woody, highly branched shrub, to 2-3 m tall. Leaves are linear-lanceolate or lanceolate, glabrous, entire, green or light green, and up to 7 cm long. Inflorescence of 3-20 flowers, greenish-yellow and dark tones. A native of Cape Verde that grows on the most mountainous islands of Santo Antão, São Nicolau, Santiago, Fogo, Brava and Santa Luzia, practically from sea level to 2,700 m, but is less common from 400 to 1,800 m. It grows on crags and hillsides, areas of lapilli, volcanic ash and malpaíses or badlands, and is locally common. However, because it is used for forage, tanning leather and especially for firewood, it is under threat and has been classified as Endangered.
