Siempreviva zigzag (Limonium papillatum)

Creeping perennial, with jointed stems, although it can grow up to 20 cm tall. Leaves mainly oblanceolate to spathulate, rather fleshy, in a basal rosette. Flowers are small, light blue, with pinkish floral bracts clustered in dense inflorescences and arranged on the tip of zig-zag branches, hence the vernacular name. This native of the Savage and Canary Islands has two varieties: the typical (eastern Canaries, including the islets) and L. callibotryum (Savage Islands). This coastal halophyte is locally abundant and can thrive up to 200 m above sea level. It is under a certain degree of threat, especially in the Canaries, were it is sensitive to coastal alteration.
