Found in dense clusters on well-decayed logs; less frequently on bark.
Fruiting body: Up to 1/8" (3 mm) tall. Egg-shaped / short cylinder. Outer wall disappears and contents expand to form bright pink mesh. Stalk: ~1 mm. Dark red-brown. Similar A. incarnata has light-colored stalk. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
