Age is but a number.
And in Judi Dench’s mind, she’s still under 40, the Oscar winner told The Guardian in a new interview published Friday.
The “Notes on a Scandal” star, who by all accounts is considered a national treasure in the U.K. and an international one abroad, said she hates the “terrible label” as it “relegates me to being an 86-year-old woman.
“Whereas in my mind’s eye I’m 6 feet and willowy and about 39,” explained Dench.
In reality, the 86-year-old “Cats” star stands at just 5-foot-1, but remains fabulous as ever.
The same cannot be said for the national treasure identifier, which the Tony winner finds “so dusty, so dreary” and has always hated.
“It’s like they’ve picked me up and put me inside a little glass-fronted cabinet,” she said. “Then they’ve locked the door so I can’t get out.”
But the “Blithe Spirit” actress has no intention of letting herself feel trapped, even during quarantine, where she does her best to stay occupied.
If nothing else, she’s content at the moment to say “f–k being 86 years old” and mean it.
