Plants herbs or shrubs, with simple hairs. Inflorescences racemelike, spikelike, or thyrselike, open or dense, even headlike in some species; bracts large and leaf-like or distinctly smaller than the leaves; cymes with 1-many flowers; bracteoles absent. Calyces 5-lobed, lobes subequal or upper 1-3 lobes slightly large; corollas 1-lipped, only lower lips present; tubes hairy in the throat; lips 5-lobed, the middle lobe the largest; stamens directed to the dorsal side of the corolla tubes, well-exserted beyond the mouths; styles branches equally long or lower branches slightly longer. Nutlets broadly ellipsoid, reticulate or reticulately rugos, often more or less pubescent, attachment scars 1/3-2/3 the length of the nutlet.
Teucrium is a genus of about 250 species. They grow in almost all parts of the world. There are 5 species in Somaliland and Somalia.
